Working With Children And Young People

For Parents and Guardians

If you are seeking therapy for your child or adolescent, I offer a warm, accepting space where they can explore their inner world and develop healthy emotional regulation. I build an honest, supportive relationship with each young person I work with, helping them feel seen, understood, and accepted just as they are.

Supporting Emotional Development

My approach supports children in recognising their feelings, needs, and physical sensations-often through creative and sensory-based activities that suit their developmental stage. While sessions are held one-to-one, I may occasionally involve you in a joint session, but only with your child’s full understanding and agreement. These moments of collaboration are always carefully discussed and never breach the trust built in our therapeutic relationship.

Normalising Emotional Experiences

In a world full of labels, it is important to remember that emotions like sadness, anger, or anxiety are normal parts of being human. I encourage a view of mental health that honours these emotional fluctuations and builds resilience through compassion.

Local Support Options

For free mental health support in the New Forest for young people, there are several options including Solent Mind’s Wellbeing Service, which offers a short-term program of courses and workshops, and social prescribing through the New Forest PCN. Also, most colleges and universities have well- supported free counselling services.

My Training and Experience

I am professionally qualified and accredited to work with adults. I have experience in working with children and adolescents in a variety of professional settings, including the counselling children and young people (11- 18 years) as a volunteer counsellor at a charity youth service, and in a further education setting. I have completed a post graduate diploma in Children and Young Persons Psychotherapy and am in the final stages of my research submission.

At this present moment in my practice, I consider working with those aged 11 and over. Should you be interested in my services, I would conduct an initial phone session with you as the parent or guardian to risk assess and consider my suitability. Prior considering therapy for your child, please consider seeing your GP to explore any medical reasons for what your son or daughter may be experiencing.

For Children and Young People

You might be feeling a bit unsure about therapy—and that is okay. I am here to support you, not to fix you or tell you what to do. In our sessions, we will work together in a way that feels right for you. We might talk, draw, move, sit quietly—or a mix of all those things.

What to Expect in Sessions

My job is to help you notice what you are feeling in your body and mind, understand those feelings better, and find ways to manage when things feel tough. I will listen without judgment and be honest with you. You do not have to pretend to be okay, and you do not have to be anything other than yourself.

Your Voice Matters

If there is ever a time when we need to involve your parent in a session, I will always talk to you about it first. You get a say in what happens.

A Space to Be Yourself

Therapy is not about having something wrong with you, it is about having space to be you, especially when life feels a bit messy. Everyone feels sad, angry, or worried sometimes. That is part of being human.
